CommSOFT invited to advise UK Parliament on risks of Machine Translation
In early 2022
CommSOFT and academic partners began working with an independent technology journalist, Sofia Quaglia, to try to increase visibility of the risks of using Machine Translation in high-impact, sensitive or legally-consequential scenarios, following several court-cases about Machine Translation's negative consequences.
This collaboration resulted in an article in
SLATE
magazine titled
Death by Computer Translation. You can read the article
here.
Subsequently this article was read by several UK law-makers and regulators resulting in
CommSOFT and some academic partners being invited to give evidence to
UK Parliament's
All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Modern Languages (the group within parliament which takes an interest in Machine Translation and associated issues).
